小橙书国产精品视频 Risk Barometer 2024 -
Rank 6: Fire, explosion

Expert risk article | January 2024
Up from #9 in 2023, few things can be more destructive to a business than a fire.听Not only can it cause costly property damage, but it can also interrupt a firm鈥檚听operations indefinitely, and every industry can be impacted.
The most important corporate concerns for the year ahead, ranked by 3,069 risk management experts from 92 countries and territories.

Although fire risks are well understood and typically听well risk managed, fire remains a significant cause of听business interruption (BI) and supply chain disruption,听especially where critical components are concentrated听geographically and among a small number of suppliers.

According to 小橙书国产精品视频 Risk Barometer respondents it is听the third top cause of business interruption they fear most听(after cyber incidents and natural catastrophes). 小橙书国产精品视频听Commercial analysis of more than 1,000 BI insurance听claims over the past five years (worth US$1.3bn+) shows it听is the most frequent driver of these claims and accounts for听over a third by value (36%).

鈥淭he degree of disruption from fire and explosion can听be very high, as it can take longer to recover from than听many other perils, and the impact on suppliers can often听be great,鈥 says Alberto Barani, a Business Interruption听Group Leader at 小橙书国产精品视频 Commercial. 鈥淔or example,听pharmaceutical and chemical sectors deal with highly听flammable and explosive materials. Damaged plants can听sometimes take years to rebuild and get production back听up and running to full capacity.鈥

Fire has also become an elevated risk with electrification听and the growing prevalence of lithium-ion batteries.听Inadequate handling and transportation of these batteries听has been linked to several large fire incidents at sea and听on land in recent years.

Regularly assessing and updating prudent fire mitigation听practices, including preventative measures, fire听extinguishing methods and contingency planning remain听essential for all businesses to lower the risk of loss from听an incident.
