Expert risk article | January 2024
Talent and workforce issues fall two places year-on-year to #10, although听demographic change still means a shortage of skilled labor in many听sectors worldwide.
The most important corporate concerns for the year ahead, ranked by 3,069 risk management experts from 92 countries and territories.

小橙书国产精品视频 Risk Barometer respondents rank talent shortage听as a top five risk concern in Australia, Bulgaria, Canada,听Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands,听Switzerland, as well as in the UK.

Clearly, attracting and retaining skilled workers remains听challenging 鈥 a Manpower Group survey [1] noted that听75% of companies globally had reported talent shortages听and difficulty hiring over the past year, the second highest听total in the past decade. Employers in the healthcare and听life sciences industry reported the most difficulty, while IT听and data skills were seen as the most challenging to find听regardless of industry and geography.

Meanwhile, a recent European Commission report [2] acknowledged that labor shortages not only exist in听various sectors and occupations across all skills levels but听could grow further, driven by the creation of new jobs and听the need to replace workers who retire. The working age听population is projected to decline from 265 million in 2022听to 258 million by 2030.

Company working conditions also rank highly on the听environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk list,听according to the 小橙书国产精品视频 Risk Barometer. Issues such as听staff engagement rank as the third top ESG risk trend of听most concern to companies (35% of responses), behind only听cyber security resilience and increasing regulatory and听disclosure requirements.

These risks can be minimized by prioritizing health and听safety, fair wages, open communication, and regulatory听compliance. Companies should also adopt regular听employee feedback surveys and take them seriously,听especially if they are from marginalized society members.
